Oceanhorn 3: Legend of the Shadow Sea hits Apple Arcade in March. It’s the sequel to Knights of the Lost Realm, the absolute best role-playing game on Apple’s subscription gaming service.
Seriously, it’s worth it for RPG fans to subscribe the Apple Arcade for a couple of months just to play these two.
RPGs are the best
Role-playing games hold a special appeal for gamers because they offer something other genres cannot: the chance to inhabit another life and shape its outcome. RPGs place players at the center of expansive worlds where choices matter. This sense of agency, combined with long-form storytelling, allows players to feel invested in characters.
At that same time, systems for leveling up and customizing characters give gamers a feeling of growth and ownership in a game where that progress is earned rather than handed out.
Oceanhorn 2: Knights of the Lost Realm joined Apple Arcade in 2019 as an excellent example of the RPG genre. Players start out as a young hero exploring an open world while battling the dark forces of Mesmeroth. Perhaps its most unusual feature is that it is a mix of science fiction and fantasy. And now there’s a sequel coming to Apple Arcade.
“Oceanhorn 3: Legend of the Shadow Sea invites you on an epic RPG odyssey,” says the developer, Cornfox & Brothers. “In this all-new installment, you will sail across countless islands to track down a long-lost god, battle giant Titans, and rediscover the knowledge needed to bring Arcadia back to life.”
The game promises console-quality visuals and deep lore, and will be a mix of exploration, combat and puzzle-solving.
“The upcoming release of Oceanhorn 3: Legend of the Shadow Sea on Apple Arcade represents the culmination of five years of passionate work, bringing a brand-new adventure to life for players of all ages,” said Heikki Repo, creator of the Oceanhorn series and creative director at Cornfox & Brothers. “With the support of our friends at Apple, we’ve crafted something truly special. We’re excited for both longtime fans and new adventurers to explore a rich new world filled with compelling characters and an unforgettable story.”
The game launches exclusively on Apple Arcade on March 5 — reserve it on the App Store now. It is playable across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV and Apple Vision Pro.
Playing comes with a $6.99 per month subscription. That same fee brings access to over 200 more games, with more added monthly. And one subscription works for up to six family members. Plus, there are never hidden costs in the games, as in-app purchases are forbidden.

Oceanhorn 3: Legend of the Shadow Sea isn’t the only title joining Apple Arcade on March 5. On the same date, three other classic games from the App Store also join the service’s family-friendly catalog — all with no ads or in-app purchases.
Players can move into a cute new home with their partner and favorite pet in wholesome life simulator Pocket Love!+, connect matching colors with pipes in popular puzzle game Flow Free+, and run a sweetshop with beloved manga character Doraemon in Doraemon Dorayaki Shop Story+.
